Prashar Lake, Mandi
Prashar lake
The Trek is situated 49km East of Mandi. You Can get there from mandi or Bajaura in Kullu valley. It is one of the best places to visit in the summer and winter seasons. There is a levitating island, Which moves in all directions of the lake. It covers 7% area of the lake. No one is able to determine the depth of the lake. There is a temple of Rishi Prashar at lake.
The Story of the Lake
I have heard stories from folks that, Once Lord Kamrunag and Pandavas were passing by someplace. So Lord Kamrunag loved the essence and divinity of that place. So, Bheema rammed his elbow on one of the mountains and created a rift in the land which Later became Prashar Lake.
The Beginning
In the mid of February, I went to my cousin`s house in mandi. In the night, my brother and I were watching a series named supernatural, then there comes a scene of “Vancouver” where the road was covered with snow. Two brothers were hitting the road. The idea of Prashar Valley came to our mind. Then we decided that we will leave the next day early morning to the valley. But we didn’t tell our parents about our Trip.
We both went on TVs Jupiter, and the journey was 50km away from his home. Due to heavy snowfall, the road was closed and then we decided to park our scooty on the side of the road. And started our hiking from there. The walking distance to the lake from there was 10km and my brother was telling me that we will not be able to finish our hiking today.
We covered 4km distance in half-hour and we decided to stop for a tea break at a tea stall and had a cutting-chai . We asked the owner that if there any shortcut for the lake he showed us the way. It was a shortcut, the path was narrow and slippery covered with snow but we didn’t stop there and we continued our hike. Then we reached the main road and prasher lake was 3 km away. I have seen that much snow for the first time in my life. Every single thing was covered with snow I couldn`t believe my eyes everything was white.
The Destination – Prashar Valley
We reached Prashar Lake at 3 pm. The view of the lake was so beautiful and mesmerizing. The lake was frozen, the mountains were covered with snow. Temple was likewise covered with snow from within. Now our main task was to return home safely. But instead of heading home at the very moment, we took a tea break. There we saw a german couple enjoying their evening and a guy with a guitar singing a song. We had a little chat with the couple about their trip to India. Sun was setting and we headed to our home. But one thing I can appreciate that I loved the weather of Parashar lake.
Best Time To visit Prashar Lake
The best time to visit the Valley is in winter because you can enjoy the view of the mountains covered with snow. You can’t visit the Valley in winter or you will miss the chance to see the mysterious floating island because it will be frozen at that time. On the other hand, If you visit the lake between June to December. In Winter you have to do hiking if you want to visit prashar valley.
